Hear from our 2014 delegates about their experience!

Your 2014 Winner:
Melissa Salazar Mrs. New Mexico United States 2014

I love that the Mrs New Mexico United States Pageant celebrates women who are married and most have children. It's something that is fun as well as something we can do for our different causes. I have enjoyed meeting new people and stepping outside my comfort zone for something I believe in. I know you don't have to have a tiara to raise money for a cause. Women like Sarah Salazar-Baca have done so much for autism in NM and Stefanie Williams Poulin has made a difference in childhood obesity... All without a a title and tiara. However, I have the opportunity to use my title to raise awareness for autism and you bet I'm going to do the best I know how to do it. And yes, I love wearing my tiara. I'm like a little girl that feels like a princess! I'm doing this because I love it. I don't live at the gym. I workout to take care I myself. I feel energized, stimulated, encouraged, strong... I could go on and on. It's MY time and I have no apologies for the 3 hours a week I spend away from my family to take care of myself. As women, wives, and mothers we have to take care of ourselves so we have things to give others. My life is not over because I have a family. Life has only begun. I will continue to have hobbies and do things for myself as well as my family. I change a whole heck of a lot of diapers, taxi drive, do hair, help with homework, get up all night, fix dinner, nurse baby... (moms you get the picture right?!) I have no regrets and am looking forward to April 12th! If I come in last place it doesn't matter because I have grown so much and have already gained so much from the journey. Thank you to all of you who have supported me. I couldn't have done it without you!

Keisha Wood Mrs. Otero County United States
2014

I was up this morning and I was overwhelmed with just thankfulness and happiness over this week. Mrs New Mexico United States!!! Its finally here!! Im not going to lie, it is stressful finding the perfect dress, outfits, and jewelry..and the thought of going on a stage in a bathing suit is so intimidating ok terrifying lol. The reason why I chose to do this pageant was just that. I was scared and felt it was impossible for me. I even said no at first. Im so happy I changed my mind. I have had so much fun since the day I decided to do this. Receiving the Sash and tierra for Mrs Otero County United States from Dacia Rutske was an amazing moment. I have completely changing my diet and work out routine, and truly have the best trainer on the planet Darla Montgomery-Hollibaugh. I have learned so much about myself! And have made amazing friends along this journey (Team 10 Woot!!) The other girls running are absolutely beautiful and shine from within. Im so excited to walk away with more friends through this. Im so thankful for all the people that stepped up to support me and sponsor me. If any one of you ever consider doing anything like this or simular, do it!! I have learned through this, the only reason we often defeat ourselves before we even get started. Go Big, and have a blast while doing it!! God Bless you all, and if you havent yet get your tickets, come and support everyone of us girls.. There will only be one winner but we have all won in some way through this!!

Crystal Montoya Mrs. Bernalillo County United States 2014

As many of you may know, I have been blessed to represent Mrs. Bernalillo County United States. This has been such an amazing opportunity for me, never in a million years would I have imagined my life to be were it is today. I don't know where tomorrow may lead, but I know with my faith & family it will be a beautiful place. No matter who wins on Saturday, I feel we are all winners, from our amazing struggles in life to our heartfelt platforms. I wish all the delegates the best of luck and a big huge thank you, to some amazing directors for all they have done for all of us! Thankyou Stefanie Williams Poulin and  Dacia Rutske.

Rachel Medina Mrs. Las Cruces United States 2014

The time is getting near as I leave tomorrow on this wonderful, amazing opportunity to compete for Mrs. New Mexico United States. I have an overwhelmed with mixed emotions! From finding the perfect dress, ( which I tried on over a dozen) to finding a swimsuit, to the right jewelry. Its been a bit of a roller coaster but I have to say Thank you to my husband Danny and my kids for all the love and support! I am not your typical pageant girl. I have always been modest, shy and to myself. So, when Stefanie Poulin asked me to represent Las Cruces I first told her no. Stefanie was very persistent and didn't give up till I gave in and said yes. I am so happy I did. I am so honored to represented married women of New Mexico who are not only full time employees, but wives, mothers, role models, and so much more. The last couple of months I have truly come out of my shell and am so excited to shine the inner and outer beauty I know I always had! Pageants are not about just wearing your crown and sash but its about getting involved in your community and bringing awareness on your platform. As everyone is aware my platform is on Domestic Violence. I am a survivor and feel there is a big need to bring more awareness to our communities. Through this all I have met some wonderful families who have lost loved ones due to domestic violence. The topper is I have also made some new friends. This has been an amazing experience and I encourage all women if given the opportunity to dive in and go for it! Be the princess you have always wanted to be and know you are! Only one of us will be the lucky woman but in my book we are all already winners to go out and share our passions and for just being part of the Mrs. United States Pageant! Thank you to Dacia and Stefanie for making this an unforgetable expierence!! Much Love!!

Tara Arellano Mrs. Duke City United States 2014

As the days ahead draw near and the Mrs. New Mexico United States Pageant comes into focus, I have an overwhelming sense of joy and gratitude. What an amazing opportunity to celebrate strong married women, many with children and all of their hard work, endeavors and passions! As many of you may know, I've competed on a National level in Fitness Model/Bikini competitions for the past 5 years after having my daughter, Ava. Participating in these events has helped me to feel empowered, alive and unstoppable! I take this new journey on with a joyful spirit and a servant's attitude... Pageantry isn't just about wearing a tiara and sash, it's about serving the community and spreading awareness about your platform. WhenStefanie Williams Poulin & Dacia Rutske appointed me to hold the Title of Mrs. Duke City United States, it was a no-brainer. This time, the goal is bigger than me- my sister, Jessica Sanchez, and her recovery is my purpose. Almost 2 years ago, her life changed forever! My sister lost who she was, my parents lost the life they knew and nothing else mattered. Though time has passed, many people don't realize that the consequences of those few seconds change the lives of TBI familes FOREVER! Finances, physical limitations, emotional struggles, pain, loss, dealing with Insurance, doctors visits, it's not easy! My GOAL is to ease the struggle these families face by building up The Jessica Sanchez Foundation to give back to any family in need at Craig Brain Hospital in Denver! So, thank you Stef & Dacia for your encouragement and to Cristin Kiburz-Fitness Pro for your guidance. Thanks to my husband Adam Arellano for your patience and all the support of my family, friends and sponsors, because I know that with my sash and crown as my microphone, I am able to gain more support for my sister's foundation and help her and other victims and families of Traumatic Brain Injuries.

Katherine Trujillo Mrs. Los Lunas United States 2014

It has been an amazing journey these past few months being a part of the Mrs. New Mexico pageant. I've been inspired personally as well as seeing these other amazing New Mexico delegates in the pageant speaking up on their platforms. We have all had the opportunities to share our passions, what we have done in our lives and how this pageant has changed us all in very positive ways. I want to also thank our amazing directors Dacia Rutske and Stefanie Williams Poulin who are truly strong, motivational and dedicated women as well. I originally was not intending to run in the pageant and wasn't sure someone of my age was a good fit. Then I started to think "Why Not Me" I'm a mother of three beautiful children, married to my husband for over 15 years and a dedicated teacher who has a cause. My passion is in education and my cause is focused on being a voice for my past, present and future students who need to find their personal greatness that makes them unique and special. These talents are not measured by the state or district mandated tests, but is able to be seen through dedicated teachers, involved parents and community members. As Mrs. Los Lunas United States, I've had amazing opportunities to speak up about the current issues in our New Mexico education and share ideas of positive ways to improve it in our schools. Not only has this pageant made me more confident but it has also shown my fifth grade students that all things are possible if you go out and give it a try. I've had so many supporters and community representatives who see my cause and want positive changes made in our New Mexico education that promotes student success and helps our students become leaders and leave their own legacies behind. I've truly enjoyed being a part of this pageant and all the confidence, friendships made and opportunities it has given me to be someone that can make positive changes happen in something I'm passionate about.

Maria Andersen Mrs. Farmington United States 2014

The Pageant Prep Camp became much more than I expected. I met women with different backgrounds, stories, personalities and mannerisms. Some were shy (or maybe just quiet) and some were very extroverted. It was great to see a collection of women who were excited about one common event. All the ladies helped each other out. They all offer encouragement and support. And most importantly it all seems genuine. This is what I think women should do for each other, not bringing the “competition” down. I am excited and honored to be a part of the first Mrs. United States New Mexico Pageant promoted by Dacia Rutske and Stefanie Williams Poulin!!!! I will admit I was very skeptical of doing a "pageant" but now I am even looking forward to next year!

April Gibson Mrs. Bloomfield United States 2014

I had such an amazing experience this weekend I'm glad I decided to compete for Mrs. NMUS. There were a couple of times I wanted to pack my bag and leave! Like when I face planted during practice and after the interview I felt I bombed the interview part because I let my insecurities get to me. And wasn't my self.. I have to laugh now because one if the questions was"how do you keep fit" and I froze what I should have said "well I love food. I'm a hog. My favorite is Jack in the box tacos! I actually got some after our dinner last night." I met some awesome people and made some new friends! Even though I didn't win I feel like a Winner for over coming my insecurities. And the best part my whole family was there supporting me and that's all that matters in my heart!
